Appliqué and Embellishing

2 Saturday Workshops – Come and learn this ancient art, it has evolved into a method to embellish all types of clothing from children’s to woman’s and even men’s garments. But ammazing creative Appliqué artworks hang on walls all over the world.

  • Appliqué is the method of securing one piece of fabric on top of another, either for functional or decorative purposes. In decorative appliqué the design is cut from a variety of fabrics, then sewn to a background foundation.
  • Appliqué has served many different purposes; from repairing worn clothing to decorating banners for use in battles. It has been practised for centuries by people from all over the world who have generated many distinctive forms of appliqué. The diversity of appliqué is obvious when one compares intricate Persian examples covered with delicate bird and flower motifs to the bold and charming folk art Appliquéd to
    quilts found in America.
  • Appliqué has evolved into the method quilters use to flaunt their expertise with a needle. Yet anyone can appliqué, as there are some basic methods anyone can learn.
  • What makes each appliqué project special is the flair, creativity and choice of techniques and materials used to create it.
