I could not even imagine a fashion world without Denim – so I find the history of denim very interesting.
Denim and Jeans - where do the names come from?
• Jeans comes from a European cloth called jean. It was originally named after sailors from Genoa in Italy, because they wore clothes made from it.
• The word denim is an Americanization of the French name "serge de Nimes," a fabric that originated in Nimes, France during the Middle Ages.
• In 1864, Webster's dictionary listed the shortened English version: DENIM
